Ex Deputy Sentenced to Maximum in Sexual Assault Charge in Tarrant County

Dallas area residents may have recently read about a former Tarrant County Sherriff’s deputy Jonathan Helm who was convicted of one count sexual assault and one count prohibited sexual contact of a sixteen year old girl and sentenced to 30 years in prison. The teen was uncooperative with authorities but did testify the ex deputy had sex with her on one occasion. The teen became pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl. The jury took only 20 minutes to sentence Helm to the maximum sentence of 20 years for the sexual assault charge and 10 years for the prohibited sexual contact charge. The trial judge then stacked the sentences which means Helms will have first discharge the 20 year sentence before he begins to serve the 10 year sentence.
